What Price Modernity? India Aborting Girls
Has it come to this--that the definition of a fully "modern" society is one that purposely murders its posterity?

Largely thanks to the technological miracle of ultrasound screening, parents in India have been able to abort an estimated 10 million baby girls over the past 20 years. The figure derives from research carried out by the University of Toronto and the Institute of Medical Education in Chandigarh, India. According to researchers, the number of baby girls born in India has decreased every year for the past 20 years, relative to the number of boys.

Apparently, modern, humanistic, it's-all-about-me culture can't ensure a future for itself--and it looks like India has made enough "progress" now to join the club.
