Chertoff May Get the Nod

There is already speculation that the vacancy left by U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales will be filled by Michael Chertoff, Secretary of Homeland Security. Granted, Chertoff has the credentials. He's a Harvard law graduate, served as law clerk to Supreme Court Justice William Brennan, was an assistant U.S. attorney in New York serving alongside Rudy Giuliani, and sat on the 3rd U.S. District Court of Appeals.

But, Michael Chertoff is also hold dual-citizenship in both the U.S. and Israel. His father, Gershon Baruch Chertoff, is a Rabbi, and his grandfather, also a Rabbi, was a Talmudic scholar. Call me "anti-semitic," but I don't want somebody that Kosher to be the most powerful attorney in America.

Chertoff is also the co-author of the USA Patriot Act, the most oppressive piece of legislation in the new millennium. This guy, along with Michael Brown, completely fouled up the Hurricane Katrina devastation. He's also the one claiming to have a "gut feeling" that another major attack on U.S. soil is presently underway.

In short, this guy gets around. What's next? Is he going to replace Cheney when he steps down?
