Real ID Act: Countdown to Tyranny
By May 11, 2008, if you don't have federal Real ID card to identify yourself, you won't be able to board an airplane, walk into a federal building, or national park. Any citizen that lives in a state that refuses to comply with this tyranny must have a passport instead. Imagine, you can't go to Yosemite National Park without a passport! The Real ID Act was signed in 2005 and is intended to replace your driver's license by creating a new national ID. That's right. The Department of Homeland Security is calling for all "states to begin issuing new FEDERAL licenses" by May 11, 2008. You will no longer have a driver's license that reflects your own home state. You belong to the Fed now. It's the only way they can protect you. They claim "Real ID is an essential weapon in the war on terror."
All 245 million license and state ID holders will have to apply for a Real DI no later than 2013. All your personal information is required, and it will be stored in a state-run database.
Initial complaints involve the projected costs for this legislation. The DHS estimates that the program could cost upwards of $23.1 billion within 10 years. Of course, all of these additional government expansions will be billed to yo: the unwilling customer.
When pundits say "9/11 changed everything," man, they ain't kidding. And it will continue to change everything. So much so, that there will nothing remotely resembling our once free republic—in fact, that was gone a long time ago. Anyone living in the twentieth century really has no idea what it's like to live in the country the founding fathers designed.
And still, the Religious Right says nothing.
